Asbestos Encapsulation Dorset
Asbestos encapsulation is a technique which encapsulates asbestos via the application of a special sealant which prevents the release of fibres into the atmosphere. This type of process is recommended when asbestos is present, but in a stable condition and unlikely to be disturbed. We work with private and commercial clients across the South and South West, helping businesses and residents keep their properties safeguarded from any potential asbestos risks. Encapsulation Of Asbestos
Encapsulation of asbestos must be performed by a qualified contractor that has specialist knowledge and equipment. Furthermore, all work must be carried out in compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
Encapsulation is only possible if the ACM is in a stable condition and bonds firmly to the substrate. It should also maintain the purpose and attributes of the original asbestos installation such as thermal insulation and fire resistance. The possibility of future damage should also be carefully considered. For example, will the encapsulated asbestos be at risk of disturbance from structural movement, equipment or vehicles?
Encapsulation Methods
There are four common encapsulation methods that can be used. The type of ACM you need to make safe will determine the method for your particular circumstances.
- High build elastomeric coating
- Mechanical encapsulation
- Penetrating encapsulants
- Water-based epoxy resins

Arrange A Survey For Asbestos Encapsulation
Before any work can be carried out, a full and detailed survey will be required. This is to determine the condition of the asbestos you intend to encapsulate and suitability of encapsulation techniques versus asbestos removal. We will complete thorough risk assessments, and if encapsulation is a viable method to make your property safe, a Plan of Work will be prepared and submitted to the Health & Safety Executive.
Encapsulation methods can be completed with minimal disturbance, so your commercial business can benefit from less downtime. However, depending on the results of the survey, we may advise asbestos removal as a superior long term method.
